Introducing Estates Ministry

The national church defines an estates parish as one with 500 or more units of social housing, and by that definition our diocese has 178 estates parishes, the second highest in the country. Estates parishes occur in every part of the diocese from the inner city to the suburbs, in the towns and also the villages of East Surrey.

Dean of Estates of Ministry

Canon Gary Jenkins is the Dean of Estates Ministry. He is based at Trinity House and is available to give support and encouragement to estates parishes around the Diocese.

We can help

We offer consultancy to estates parishes involving visiting, listening, sharing ideas, and acting as a sounding board. Please contact the Dean of Estates if you would like a visit, [email protected]

Episcopal Area Estates Networks

Estates Network meetings for each episcopal area are held termly for those engaged in estates ministry or wishing to find out more. To be added to the mailing for these events please contact the Mission Administrator, Aleisha Armah, at Trinity House, [email protected]

The Magnify course

Magnify course is designed to be the course that reaches the parts other courses do not reach. No previous qualifications or educational achievements are necessary. It consists of thirty two-hour sessions spread over a year with 6-8 participants plus two facilitators meeting in hubs around the Diocese. Its aim is to equip estates people to share the message of God’s love with estates people.

The style of learning is highly participatory, and group based. There are no formal assessments or written exercises. For details of how you can run a Magnify course in your locality please contact the Dean of Estates Ministry, Gary Jenkins, [email protected], or the Mission Administrator, Aleisha Armah, at Trinity House, [email protected]

Estates Ministry Partner Programme

Based at Springfield Church in Wallington this DIP project offers the possibility of estate church joining the Estates Ministry Partner Programme, and a ‘journey of discovery, co-creation and faithfulness in your local place.’ Further details are available from the Gloria Tshikaya, the Project Director, [email protected]
