Fellow youth workers and children’s ministry enthusiasts! I wanted to share with you all about an amazing training course called Catalyst 30K that I’ve been a part of this year. It’s a new initiative designed to equip and empower those of us working with children and youth, whether we’re volunteers or paid workers, to better serve the next generation.

Our small group had the incredible opportunity to kick off our learning journey with an induction day at Ridley Hall, followed by a series of engaging in-person and online sessions. Throughout the course, our group facilitators, Jo and Imani, guided us through insightful discussions on various topics, such as; child development, relationship building, culture, inclusion and discipleship. We were able to encourage and support each other during the course using the virtual common room on the learning platform. We also had access to a treasure trove of learning resources like articles, podcasts, and website links to deepen our understanding of each session’s content.

One thing I really appreciate about Catalyst 30K is its flexible learning approach. There is not too much written work to complete per module; instead, it focuses on reflective practice. This has prompted me to implement new methods in my children and youth ministry, laying a foundation for success. One highlight was our weekend conference at The Hayes in Derbyshire, where we had the opportunity to network with peers from both local and regional settings, engage in prayer, listen to motivational guest speakers, and partake in group activities.

As we near the end of the course, we’re preparing to showcase our learning by creating either an assignment-style presentation or a written commentary. This will demonstrate to our tutors how we plan to apply our newfound knowledge and skills in our practice. And to wrap it all up, we will have a celebratory event at Ridley Hall in Cambridge, where all Catalyst learners will receive their qualification.

After completing Catalyst 30K, we’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of our faith, essential leadership skills, and a network of connections within the children’s ministry community. Not to mention, we can earn 40 credits at a Level 4 qualification – providing knowledge and skills to lead Children and Young People, with the potential to pursue further academic studies at Ridley Hall. Catalyst 30K is not just a program – It was a transformative experience that empowered us to make a lasting impact in the lives of young individuals. I’m so grateful for this opportunity to grow and learn alongside like-minded friends who share a passion for serving the next generation.
