We seek an excellent choral practitioner to pioneer our exciting new choral project and direct our church’s music. Our Director of Musical Engagement will have a passion for singing and the entrepreneurial flair to create and shape something new. They must have a passion for choral music not only for its own sake, but also as a conduit for growing community, enhancing worship and enriching people’s lives. A committed Christian faith is not a requirement but you must be supportive of our inclusive Christian ethos and desire to nourish and build up our church community through music.

The Director of Musical Engagement will have the gifts needed to provide an engaging musical education to children from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds and inspire in them a love of choral singing. They will also enjoy training adults from our congregation in a monthly choir to increase their confidence and competence in singing. They will have the opportunity to nurture a quartet of more experienced and competent singers through our new choral scholars scheme. This is all part of a three pronged approach to increase musical engagement, enhance our worship and build up the life of our church community,

St Mary, Newington is in a central and accessible location in Zone 1, between Kennington tube and Elephant and Castle. The successful candidate will be joining us at an exciting time of renewal. Our congregation is culturally diverse and friendly, representing a breadth of the people who live in this area. We are a place of welcome for LGBTQ+ people and stand in the inclusive catholic tradition of the Church of England.

Remuneration: £12,000 for ten hours per week (£48,000 pro rata based on a 40hr week) (46 weeks per year).
