“In a world where you can be anything, be kind!” are Clare Pooley, Author of The Authenticity Project’s words, that we here every so often as a reminder to be kind to one another.
Each year, Random Acts of Kindness Week runs during the month of February, and this Monday (17 February) is Random Acts of Kindness Day. It’s a national awareness day led by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation to recognise making kindness the norm and a time where we are all encouraged to inspire, empower and act with kindness.
To show kindness, is to show love through meaningful acts of service that can make a real impact to someone in need of support or gratitude to someone who has shown kindness that stimulates a sense of joy or happiness. Most of all, kindness starts from within – taking time for quiet reflection to perhaps, do something you love or show yourself some appreciation with a bit of self-care is to be kind to yourself, knowing that you are loved by God.
Research also suggests that kindness is good for mental health as it reduces stress and improves our emotional wellbeing. The Mental Health Foundation has shared 50 random act of kindness you can do today.
Showing kindness to yourself and others, is something we are taught in scriptures and we adopt the act of being kind as we go about our daily lives as Christians. The Bible says, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32).
So, this week, as we reflect on Random Acts of Kindness – no matter how big or small, let us remember that a little bit of kindness goes a long way.
