The Diocese of Southwark in conjunction with Surbiton High School wish to make a joint appointment. This new role combines the duties of Team Vicar of St John the Evangelist, Kingston and a School Chaplain for Surbiton High School.
St John’s, one of three parishes in the Kingston Team Ministry, serves a vibrant village style community close to the centre of Kingston and enjoys a close relationship with its church primary school, attracting many young families. St John’s is a member of Inclusive Church and values an informal style within the liberal catholic tradition. The church building has recently undergone extensive refurbishment.
Surbiton High School is a leading independent school with approximately 1,600 pupils aged between 4 and 18.The Preparatory Schools are divided into the Girls’ Preparatory School and Boys’ Preparatory School, and the Senior School is girls only from age 11 upwards. The School has an Anglican foundation, valuing its Christian heritage whilst welcoming staff and children from all faiths and none.
A priest is sought who:
- is prayerful, with a strong sense of vocation
- is an open-minded, collaborative and confident leader
- is an engaging preacher who connects faith with contemporary life
- is passionate about developing existing links in the local community, including with St John’s School and other local schools
- has emotional and relational intelligence, fully able to empathise with the pupils
- has the personal warmth to gain the confidence and trust of pupils, staff and parents
- has good communication and listening skills with an outgoing and positive outlook
- has a flexible and creative approach to solving problems
- has the organisational skills needed to manage two part-time roles while prioritising time for their own well-being
This joint post is offered with housing and full incumbent’s stipend. There is a modern four bedroomed vicarage, with garden and garage, adjacent to the church.
