Sessional Anglican Chaplain at HMP Thameside

HMP Thameside is seeking a Sessional Anglican Chaplain to join the Chaplaincy Team.

The preferred candidate will:

• Be a spirit-filled Christian with a mature faith
• Ideally be an ordained Priest, but a Deacon, Lay Reader under Canon E6, religious brother or sister, or Church Army Evangelist could also be considered.
• Have a calling to/heart for prison ministry (it is acknowledged that this may need to be discerned through visits, conversations etc.)
• Be a team player – willing to take a fair share of statutory duties as well as worship, Bible studies/Alpha Course, pastoral care etc
• Be comfortable working in a multi-faith environment/team and in providing support for prisoners and staff of all faiths and none
• Be able to work with prisoners with often complex needs and challenging backgrounds. Non-judgemental
• Be capable of good record keeping
• Have experience of some kind of chaplaincy. This would be valuable but not essential. A willingness to undertake training in prison chaplaincy if no prior experience, but also to learn ‘on the job’ would be required
• Be flexible and adaptable given the sometimes unpredictable nature of prison ministry

The position will be offered on a zero hours contract basis but with the likelihood that two days per week will normally be offered, but with flexibility on this. The days would normally/ideally be Sunday and one weekday, but again there could be flexibility.

As this is a sessional post/zero hours contract there is no salary, but the current rate for a Serco sessional chaplain is £17.45 per hour.

Start date is as soon as reasonably possible, subject to pre-employment checks including all necessary security vetting and clearance.
