Bulletin no.30 - Friday 20 November
1 week, 4 days ago
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
- Halfway through Lockdown Two
We are now halfway through the second lockdown and extremely thankful that our churches have been able to open for private prayer and also that services can be streamed safely from behind closed doors. There has been no major change in Government guidelines since the last bulletin, but please go to the CofE website for any updates and information you may need. - Looking ahead - preparing for Advent and Christmas
The spread of the virus in London is holding fairly steady and it looks as if we will go into the three-tier system from 2 December. In which case, public worship will resume.
To ensure safe distancing at all times, numbers will need to be carefully assessed. As we approach Advent and the Christmas season, we are mindful that more people will want to visit their local churches. We are therefore advising that you may well need to consider increasing the number of services, especially if you think that you will have larger numbers attending than usual. - Liturgical Resources for Advent
- Cathedral Advent Procession
Southwark Cathedral will be premiering its Advent Procession on Advent Sunday, 29 November at 6pm. All are welcome to join this special service online to mark the beginning of the season of Advent. The Cathedral Lay Clerks will lead everyone from darkness to light, in the candlelit Cathedral as we celebrate the biblical figures heralding the birth of the Messiah. The service will be available online at this link: https://cathedral.southwark.anglican.org/worship-and-music/worship/live-service-stream/ should you wish to use it for your own online Advent devotions.
- Sermons from the Bishops and Archdeacons
The Bishops will be providing sermons for Sundays during Advent, which are offered as a resource should clergy wish to use them.
The Archdeacons will be providing a full service for Sundays for the Christmas through to Candlemas season. These should be available at least a week in advance of the Sunday they are provided for so that parishes have the option to embed them into their own streaming routine.
We will, of course, be in touch again if there are further announcements and changes.
With our continued thanks and prayers for all that you do.
