The Bishop of Southwark, The Rt Revd Christopher Chessun, offers this message for the season of Christmas:
My dear brothers and sisters, today with give thanks for Christ’s birth and that he is born again in our hearts – Emmanuel, God with us, assuming our frail and mortal flesh to give us the hope of heaven. As we give thanks for God’s immeasurable gift and his eternal kindness, I also give heartfelt thanks for you in the Diocese of Southwark.
During Advent we have made our pilgrimage to Nazareth to worship at the crib, just as the Magi made their pilgrimage when they saw the mysterious star that appeared at Christ’s birth. Today we adore in quiet wonder, with the holy family and the shepherds. This is the source, the beginning of faith. If we abide here for the time being, we shall be granted the sustenance we need to embark upon the next stage of the pilgrimage. The one who calls us is faithful, and we can trust in him in all circumstances.
I wish you and those you love a joyful Christmas, and every happiness in the new year,
Bishop Christopher
