The winter months are coming. For some of us, this may be exciting as we dig out our coats from the back of our wardrobe, tuck into a winter soup, and cosy up on the sofa with a steaming cup of tea and a good book.

Whilst we may enjoy these things, the winter months can bring additional pressures and challenges for us and those in our community. The months get wetter and colder, and the nights get longer. Harsher weather can also pose challenges to our church buildings and community spaces.

The church will be seeing many people through this season day to day as well as through light parties, remembrance Sundays, Christingles, carol services, new year celebrations and more. Therefore, the church can play a supportive role to those who find this winter season harder.

We have created a toolkit to help you think through some ways that you might make the most of the winter months. It covers the areas of social isolation, loneliness, and mental health, supporting young people and older individuals, building climate resilience, coming alongside those with additional financial pressure and those who are rough sleeping.

We hope that this will be a simple but useful tool as you move into winter.

Please reach out to let us know what your church is doing and responding through this winter season to [email protected].
