A Christmas message from the Bishop of Southwark
In the birth of a child, parents and onlookers glimpse the miracle of creation – a truth about our human existence becomes intensely real. With the birth of Jesus this is supremely so. At Christmas we give thanks for the Word made flesh – coming to dwell among us full of grace and truth, ‘our God contracted to a span’ and the beginning of our salvation. I also thank God for each of you, for your prayers and good wishes for me as I have been convalescing following the motor vehicle accident in which I was seriously injured at the end of September. I have felt upheld and greatly encouraged on my journey of recovery by the wave of prayer along with many kind messages. May you and those you love know the peace and joy of the Christ child this Christmas and in the coming year.
Wishing you and those you love a blessed and joyful Christmastide
A Christmas Blessing led by the Dean of Southwark, featuring children taking part in this year’s #SouthwarkAdvent films
May the joy of the angels, the eagerness of the shepherds, the perseverance of the wise men, the obedience of Joseph and Mary and the peace of the Christ-child be yours this Christmas; and the blessing of the loving God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, rest upon you this Advent and Christmas and remain with you always. Amen. All of us here at the Southwark Diocese and here at Southwark Cathedral wish you a really happy Christmas and a very peaceful New Year.
