art’otel London Battersea Power Station has announce the launch of Follow the Star, a Christmas community art studio running throughout the whole of December in partnership with Nine Elms Art Ministry.
Nine Elms Arts Ministry will be taking over the hotel’s art’beat studio, filling it with free creative opportunities for all to enjoy. Taking centre stage is the creation of a giant festive mural by artist Adalberto Lonardi – a former student of art’otel Battersea’s Signature Artist Jaime Hayon – depicting a contemporary take on a traditional nativity, set in the heart of Battersea. Local residents, visitors and hotel guests are invited to come and help paint the mural, playing a role in the creation of a spectacular festive centrepiece.
“This is an excellent opportunity to showcase the diverse and creative community that is growing in Battersea,” said The Rt Revd Christopher Chessun, Bishop of Southwark. “Advent is a season rich with hope and expectation and I’m delighted that this partnership will offer this community a chance to creatively explore the symbolism and meaning of the season.”
“We are delighted that art’otel has invited us to create this very special nativity mural in their beautiful hotel in the heart of the new Battersea Power Station Town centre,” added Revd Betsy Blatchley, Pioneer Minister in the Arts. “It’s a huge privilege to work with Adalberto and so many other amazing artists from across many faiths, cultures and backgrounds, and to offer the local community a chance to make Advent and Christmas a time of creativity and joy.”
A studio for artists and the community
From 12 to 15 December, art’otel and Nine Elms Arts Ministry will host a diverse group of local artists to create small artworks in response to and building upon Adalberto Lonardi’s masterpiece, forming a captivating exhibition within the studio.
From 16 December to 5 January, the art’beat studio will become a room of inspiration where visitors can take time to pause, reflect, and creatively respond to the finished artwork. The room will be filled with quality brushes, pencils, markers, paper and cards designed by Adalberto.
Between 16 December to 4th January, Nine Elms Arts Ministry will curate a programme of festive artist-led free workshops and events open to the public.
