Following discussion recently at the Bishop’s Staff Meeting, Archdeacon Jonathan Sedgwick is bringing together a group of LGBT+ clergy to provide pastoral support and work together in a number of areas. The main focus of the work will be to identify and make available pastoral resources for all those seeking to develop and enhance ministry and missional engagement with LGBT+ people. If this is a particular focus of your ministry and you are willing to share details about it please contact one of the members of the group.
The members of the group will also be available to support clergy colleagues and lay leaders facing particular challenges in ministry as a result of their sexuality or gender identity. One of the early tasks for the group will be to consider the practicalities of offering a chaplaincy service more widely to anyone struggling for reasons of sexuality and/or gender identity as a number of dioceses have done.
The group will also be working with a similar group of LGBT+ senior leaders in our schools which Roz Cordner is establishing in the SDBE.
