Founded by local residents looking to make a difference, Croydon Community Energy is a community-led movement bringing renewable energy and opportunity to Croydon. Their aim is to ensure Croydon is contributing to the nation’s net zero goals to combat the climate emergency, and the funding follows the solar share model – where local residents can buy shares in solar projects which benefit public buildings in Croydon, like Archbishop Tenison’s School, and are paid back their share with some interest from the renewable electricity the panels go onto generate. The school also sees a reduction in its energy bills and will ultimately receive full ownership of the solar panels.
The 96.3kWp project was delivered in partnership with Joju Solar who designed the system and completed the installation. Archbishop Tenison’s School hopes to add additional solar panels in the future.
