Anna Drew has been appointed as the new Director of Communications for the Diocese of Southwark. She will also be the Bishop of Southwark’s Press Officer.

She joins us from the Diocese of Canterbury where she has been Director of Communications for the last seven years. As well as this experience from another Diocese she also brings experience from previous posts in the Methodist Church of Great Britain, including the role of Lead Media Officer

She will take up her role on 17 April 2023.

Commenting on her appointment, Anna says “I’m so excited to be joining the Southwark team. One of the things that really attracted me to this role is the great diversity of the diocese, its parishes and communities – and the riches that offers as we seek to walk, welcome and grow together. I’m also inspired by the undeniable passion for social justice that’s woven throughout all of Southwark’s work. I can’t wait to get started.”

The Bishop of Southwark, The Right Revd Christopher Chessun comments, “I am looking forward to welcoming Anna Drew into her new role as Director of Communications, which is at the heart of our life and witness in the Diocese of Southwark. Anna will also be my Press Officer and Media Adviser. Anna’s experience in the Diocese of Canterbury and her background in communications in the wider church will help us to continue to focus on all the good news there is to share in this Diocese and the many varied stories in our parish communities, as we strive to be Christ-centred and outward focussed in all we do.”

Ruth Martin, the Diocesan Secretary says, “We are delighted that Anna is coming to join the team here in the Diocese of Southwark. She brings with her a great deal of experience which enables her to further develop the progress that we have made in our communications strategy, which is focussed on using many different media to celebrate of God’s people serving our parishes, schools and communities. I very much look forward to working with her.”
