Remembering Her Majesty The Queen

In gratitude, as we bid farewell to a greatly-loved Queen, we give thanks this day/this night to Almighty God:

For her grace, humanity and sympathy;
for her courage in adversity;
for the joy she brought to so many throughout the world;
for her steadfast faith;
for her example of service;
and for the duty which she rendered devotedly to her country and the Commonwealth.

As we commend Elizabeth, his servant, to God’s loving mercy,
we pray too for her family in their grief and loss.

O Father of all, we pray to you for those whom we love, but see no longer. Grant them your peace; let light perpetual shine upon them; and in your loving wisdom and almighty power work in them the good purpose of your perfect will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Bring us, O Lord God, at our last awakening into the house and gate of heaven, to enter into that gate and dwell in that house, where there shall be no darkness nor dazzling, but one equal light; no noise nor silence, but one equal music; no fears nor hopes, but one equal possession; no ends nor beginnings, but one equal eternity; in the habitations of thy glory and dominion, world without end. Amen.

Prayer for the Royal Family and all who mourn

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, and giver of all comfort: deal graciously, we pray, with those who mourn, and especially our King and all members of the Royal Family, that, casting every care on you, they may know the consolation of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O heavenly Father, who, in your Son Jesus Christ, has given us a true faith and a sure hope: help us, we pray, to live as those who believe and trust in the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, and the resurrection to everlasting life; and strengthen this faith and hope in us all the days of our life; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayers for His Majesty The King
Please note that we shall not know His Majesty’s regnal name until the Day of Proclamation. Please use the appropriate form of words below for before or after the Day of Proclamation.

O God, you provide for your people by your power, and rule over them in love: bless your servant, our King, that under him this nation may be wisely governed, and your Church may serve you in all godly quietness; and grant that he being devoted to you with his whole heart, and persevering in good works unto the end may, by your guidance, come to your everlasting kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Lord our heavenly Father, high and mighty, King of kings, Lord of lords, the only ruler of princes, you look down from your throne on all who dwell on earth: we ask you most earnestly to look favourably on our sovereign Lord, the King / King N. Fill him with your Holy Spirit so that he may love your law and walk in your way. Give him health and strength; and grant that after this life he may enjoy everlasting happiness in your eternal kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, your kingdom is eternal and your power infinite: have mercy on the whole church. Rule the heart of your servant, the King / N. our King, so that he, knowing whose minister he is, may above all things seek your honour and glory. And grant that we and all his subjects may faithfully serve, honour and obey him according to your word and ordinance; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty and eternal God, you teach us in your word that the hearts of rulers are under your sovereign control, and that you incline and turn them according to your godly wisdom: we humbly beseech you so to govern the heart of the King / N. your servant, our King, that in all his thoughts, words and works he may always seek your honour and glory and strive to preserve your people under his care in prosperity, peace and godliness. Grant this, O merciful Father, for your dear Son’s sake, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For use after the Day of Proclamation:

Almighty God, the fountain of all goodness, we humbly beseech you to bless our most gracious Sovereign Lord, N., Camilla, the Queen Consort, and all the Royal Family: endue them with your Holy Spirit, enrich them with your heavenly grace; prosper them with all happiness; and bring them to your everlasting kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
