As part of the Bishop of Southwark’s vision to grow the number of ordained and lay vocations, applications are sought from lay and ordained members of the Diocese to join the Diocesan Vocations Team in the role of Vocations Adviser.

The essential requirement for a Vocations Adviser (VA) is a passion for growing and nurturing vocation in all people. The Diocese is looking especially to encourage vocations in people who represent the full diversity of our diocese.

VAs are appointed by the Diocesan Bishop. Their work is overseen by the Diocesan Director of Ordinands and coordinated by one of the Coordinating Vocations Advisers.

The role of the VA is to accompany individuals as they begin to discern their vocation to licensed ministry, to offer appropriate advice, guidance and resources, then to ‘handover’ to the next relevant member of the Vocations Team. It is also actively to encourage and resource the exploration of vocations throughout the Diocese. VAs will be appropriately and consistently trained and supported, flexible and administratively competent, and sensitive to the lived experience of those exploring their call.

Please email Revd Raymond Baudon, Assistant DDO and Deputy Director of Vocations, for further details and an application pack. His email address is: [email protected].

Deadline for applications: 1 August 2021
Interviews will be arranged at a mutually convenient time before 6 September 2021.

Dates of initial training: 6 September 2021 (online or in Trinity House in the evening) 29-30 September (Wychcroft, subject to Covid regulations) (attendance at both training events is expected)
