This post provides an exciting opportunity to work within the Oxted Team Ministry which consists of four churches, however, you will spend most of your time working with St John the Evangelist in Hurst Green and about 15% of your time with St George’s in Crowhurst. The churches currently mostly operate separately and independently from each other, but we are evolving as a team, coming together more and more, and sharing resources where possible. We are in a semi-rural location but with good access to the M25 and train services to London.
You will be inclusive and welcoming of all people, warm and approachable with a good sense of strategy and experience in leading and managing change, setting clear vision and direction. You will have a heart for sharing Jesus not just in our church buildings but also in our local community. We want you to have knowledge of what it means to be a church embedded in the community and welcome those from non-church backgrounds. We are looking for someone with the skills to draw together young and old, families and single, with a desire to build on the work that has been done to engage with children and youth.
St John’s has a vision to be a church without walls at the heart of the community and this post is a chance to be part of a challenging, pioneering mission initiative. We have a strong team running this project, but we need a vicar with vision, energy, and a commitment to help us get this project over the line. Could this be you?!
For an informal conversation with The Venerable Moira Astin, Archdeacon of Reigate, please contact [email protected]
You may also contact the Team Rector Designate, Rev James Ashton by email [email protected] or by telephone 07948 248030 (please do not contact until after 22 August 2023).
We have a policy in Southwark Diocese that to be appointed to an incumbent status post, a priest must have served a title post in an Anglican church in the British Isles. We aim to be a diverse and truly representative Diocese, and particularly welcome applications from women and people of UKME heritage.
