The Bishop of Southwark with The Archbishop of Canterbury

wishes to appoint a

Rector for St Margaret’s Chipstead

This position offers exciting opportunities and possibilities.  We are a single church parish in a semi-rural location just south of Greater London, and are looking for a Rector to lead, inspire and encourage our mixed-age congregation in both traditional and contemporary worship.  Post-Covid we are looking to regrow our church, with particular emphasis on young families, and with the help of a supportive team and congregation.

We are seeking a leader to help us in our mission ‘to know and share God’s transforming love with one another, with our local community and the wider world’, and who:

  • Can embrace both traditional and contemporary/charismatic worship and can inspire and equip people to grow in their faith.
  • Can confidently manage a leadership team and work well with others.
  • Can engage well with young families and encourage growth with children of all ages.
  • Can reach out and make us more visible in the local community.
  • Can handle difficult contemporary issues.
  • Is approachable, welcoming and a good communicator.
  • Has a working knowledge of social media.

We can offer:

  • A committed, enthusiastic and open-minded support team at both parish and deanery level.
  • A full-time administrator, and part-time youth leader and music director (currently a vacancy for a children & families leader).
  • A large team of dedicated volunteers.
  • A modern 5-bedroomed rectory.
  • A warm welcome!

We have a policy in Southwark Diocese that to be appointed to an incumbent status post, a priest must have served a title post in an Anglican church in the British Isles. We aim to be a diverse and truly representative Diocese, and particularly welcome applications from women and people of UKME heritage.
