The Patron (the Lord Chancellor) and the Bishop of Southwark are seeking a new Rector for the Parish of St George the Martyr with St Alphege & St Jude – a lively, diverse and inclusive church in the liberal catholic tradition in Borough about half way between the Elephant and Castle and London Bridge.
As the profile makes clear, the parish is looking for ‘a confident leader and builder of a diverse parish team’ and someone who will be committed to growth, to rebuilding a stronger community in the parish and ‘to engage with our local community.’
The Parish Profile suggests the following priorities:
- an opportunity to review and reconsider our pattern of worship overall building on the ‘strengths and authenticity of our liturgical tradition’
- finding a way to balance the demands of the Food Cooperative with the wider role of the parish
- rebuilding the community and engaging those who have not returned
- growth, engaging with our community and continuing to serving students at London South Bank University
- continuing to build a genuinely inclusive community
The Parish offers:
- A diverse and inclusive congregation keen to grow and serve the local community with a committed – though small – number of lay volunteers including three church wardens.
- A Food Co-operative serving the local community and engaging many volunteers
- Good facilities at the Church together with other income-generating parish property
- A strong relationship with the Parish School, St Jude’s.
- Relatively healthy finances.
- A large and comfortable five bedroom house and garden about a five minute walk from the church.
