The Bishop of Southwark and The Trustees of Marshall’s Charity as Patron wish to appoint a

Rector of Southwark, Christchurch

Christchurch is a friendly, open, Anglican church rooted in the liberal catholic tradition and centred on the unconditional love of God. We seek to be:

  • Contemplative as we seek God’s nurturing for ourselves and our community.
  • Open to new ideas and perspectives.
  • Inclusive: a church that affirms and celebrates every person.
  • Generous in our thinking, welcome and service.
  • Rooted in the Christian tradition as we learn from the past and reimagine the future.

We are seeking a person of prayer who is nurtured by their life of prayer. Someone who feels called to journey alongside us and the people who live and work in our Parish enabling both the parish congregation and as Prior, the Blackfriars New Monastic Community (Blackfriars Community) to grow.

Our new Rector will share our existing liberal catholic tradition and styles of worship, coupled with a missional drive that seeks to grow and build the church and be attracted to the ‘Fresh Expressions’ Pioneer Ministry that is already underway at Christchurch.

Our locality is currently experiencing significant change due to redevelopment, the completion of which will see a dramatically enhanced setting for the church and many new arrivals into the parish. The new Rector will therefore have the opportunity to be instrumental in shaping this expanded local community.

Because of the rapid changing nature of the area, this post will be for an initial fixed period of five years but with the hope and expectation that this will be renewed towards the end of that time.

Closing Date: Tuesday 19 September 2023

Parish Visit: to be confirmed

Interview Date: Wednesday 18 October 2023
