Finance and Church Administrator 15hours per week @ £18/hour

Context

St Margaret the Queen is a church that has just undergone major refurbishment and redevelopment in order to become a community hub which meets the needs of local people. We aim to welcome local people who will be encouraged to own and direct key projects and services in ways which deliver sustainably social outcomes potentially including a food bank, nursery care, work with young people, work with marginalised people, intergenerational projects, money advice, and local NHS outsourced health related services. This post has the potential to develop as the project progresses.

Job Purpose

The Finance and Church Administrator will help co-ordinate the operations of the church, acting as first point of contact for current and potential users, day to day running, scheduling and minuting PCC and users meetings and acting as the primary record keeper. They will work closely with the Community Development Consultant who is responsible for building links with community groups and for fundraising for current and future projects.

 

Responsible to:  Ven Simon Gates as Priest in Charge

Working as a team with :  Church Premises Manager and Community Hub Associate

 

Financial Responsibilities

Financial responsibilities include:

  • tracking and recording church income and expenses
  • ensuring timely payment of invoices as required
  • preparing and monitoring budget and cashflow
  • maintaining bank accounts and other statutory records
  • managing monthly payroll and related record keeping
  • liaising with Diocese, payroll, VAT and HMRC services as necessary
  • liaising with the independent examiner and for preparation of annual accounts
  • reporting to PCC and Development Board on financial activity

General Management

General management duties include:

  • acting as first point of contact for users and potential users of the church & church hall
  • managing lettings calendar for short and long term lets,
  • Maintaining PCC records and files, electronic and paper
  • Managing SMTQ internet/email accounts,
  • Keeping computer files backed up
  • Scheduling, notifying and minuting meetings

 

Person Specification

The postholder will be someone who is trustworthy, approachable, flexible, be able to prioritise their own work, have considerable motivation and a ‘Can-do’ attitude that offers solution to problems. They must also be able to do lone working and be appreciative of the Christian faith.

Essential

  • Experience in Finance and Management of accounts
  • Proficient in Quickbooks, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Good organisational skills
  • Administrative experience
  • Good at taking initiative, being proactive and prioritising
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety
  • Knowledge of safeguarding

 

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a church and/ or community environment
  • Knowledge of Church of England structures and processes
  • Experience in managing buildings
