Facilities Officer 8hours per week @ £13/hour

Context

St Margaret the Queen is a church that has just undergone major refurbishment and redevelopment in order to become a community hub which meets the needs of local people. We aim to welcome local people who will be encouraged to own and direct key projects and services in ways which deliver sustainably social outcomes potentially including a food bank, nursery care, work with young people, work with marginalised people, intergenerational projects, money advice, and local NHS outsourced health related services. This post has the potential to develop as the project progresses.

Manage Building Facilities

Property and facilities management duties include:

  • overseeing the maintenance and security operations of church facilities
  • maintaining supplies and equipment and enforcing church policies for use
  • ensure that insurance policies remain current and in place
  • Carry out fire safety checks, PAT testing and fixing errors on electric panel
  • liaising with utility companies as required and arrange meter readings for bill payments
  • engaging contractors and arrange access for the provision of competitive quotes, when required, for repairs and maintenance and payment resultant invoices
  • completing faculty applications for repairs and other changes to the church premises, liaising with Diocesan Officers and inspecting architects as required
  • liaising with all users and authorities regarding health & safety, security and maintenance
  • creating and agreeing appropriate licences and /or rental agreements liaise with relevant parties as required
  • Day to day management, required repairs and maintenance, and holding primary responsibility for building’s keys.

Securing the Building

  • Opening and closing, unlocking and locking of the church for meetings and events
  • Monitoring site security, Ensure that clear passage is maintained on fire escape routes
  • Report any defects of building, furniture, fittings and equipment to the buildings manager
  • Register as main Key Holder and be the first point of contact in an emergency callout situation for emergency repairs or allow access to any contractor working on site.
  • Overall security of the church including the locking of all windows, doors and gates
  • Upkeep, general care and cleanliness of the building

 

Grounds Maintenance

  • Regular check of roofs for pooling, debris, plant growth etc.
  • Keep all hard surfaces free of moss and weeds
  • Disinfect drains and dustbins regularly
  • Make safe any hazards and ensure that the area is cordoned off
  • Keep paths, entrances free of ice and snow to ensure the safety of staff and visitors

 

General Management

  • Be responsible for monitoring and ordering cleaning supplies and equipment through the buildings manager
  • Noting, monitoring and reporting any defects in the church to the buildings manager
  • Monitor the work of any contractors working on site
  • Ensure that all lights and heating are working effectively
  • Read Gas, Electric and Water meters as required and give readings to buildings manager
  • Monitoring and setting of heating controls and boilers
  • Be aware of the location of all stopcocks, gas and electricity meters and read meters as required.
  • Ensure that the boiler house is tidy and that no flammable material is stored
  • Any other work requested by and deemed appropriate by the PCC

 

Person Specification

The postholder will be someone who is trustworthy, approachable, flexible, be able to prioritise their work and have considerable expertise in a building trade to offer solution to problems.

They must also be able to do lone working and be appreciative of the Christian faith.
