Over the past year, as 5 churches across 3 different parishes, we’ve been asking, talking and hearing about some of the issues our local community face and areas where we could come together to support our community further. One of the themes was about support for families with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
- When the Coterie launched in Autumn 2021- we heard people wanted a forum/community for families with SEND and emerging SEND needs to meet other families and support each other
- We had conversations at Ignite in June last year about ideas for supporting families with SEND further.
- At the Pancake Parties and After School Craft sessions – many families appreciated the inclusive nature of them
- Messy Church has restarted and families are grateful for the support they are being given by our local churches
So we are aiming to launch Club OK – a new inclusive after school club!
The aims of Club OK will be to provide:
- a welcoming and inclusive space for parents and their primary school aged children to come together after school (children must be accompanied by an adult)
- a means for parents/carers to talk to each other and support each other
- a means for children to read or interact with each other after school
- a space for talking about our children’s emotional development, how to help them build on their emotional development and how to help them cope with life’s challenges
But to do that we need to find a Club OK Leader – someone to lead this exciting new initiative and run the club. Once we’ve found a Club OK Leader we will also need volunteers to help us run the sessions and launch! So please bear in mind if you may be interested in supporting this initiative further as a volunteer going forwards.
It’s an ambitious idea we’ve “ignited” – and we’re now looking for someone to help us turn this idea into reality. Could it be you? Or someone you know?
