Are you excited by the chance to work in a dynamic, diverse inner-city parish?

Do you love working with children and young people?

St Anselm’s Kennington is a welcoming, inclusive and family-friendly church within North Lambeth Parish. Our music is based in the Anglican tradition but aims to reflect the diversity of our congregation. The senior choir leads our worship each Sunday and comes together as a larger group of 15-20 singers for monthly anthems and special services. We also have a children’s choir with around 20 members, who sing monthly on a Sunday. We are now looking to develop our musical offering by creating singing scholarships for children aged 11-16 who want to take their singing further. This is part of our vision for the future of our music:

–   A vibrant and diverse musical tradition which engages all ages in leading worship

–   To offer opportunities for musical training and participation to those within our congregation as well as our broader community

–  To foster a sense of excellence in our music, while maintaining its inclusivity

The Assistant Music Director will lead weekly term-time practices with the singing scholars and will ideally also provide one-to-one singing lessons. They will aim to build up a larger choir of young people around the core of the scholars, and create opportunities for the group to perform externally alongside other choirs as a way of raising aspiration. The candidate will ideally be able to play piano and/or organ for services and rehearsals where necessary. We also hope that any candidate would be able to appreciate the role of music within the wider ministry of our church and work well with the ministry team.

Alongside the scholarship programme, we are starting a steel pan group for young people and adults, which will lead worship for occasional services. The AMD will be involved in developing and supporting this alongside the Music Director and band leader.

Please note that any successful applicant will be required to undergo a DBS check and safeguarding training.
