Audit of Diocesan Safeguarding Arrangements
In October 2016 The Diocese of Southwark’s safeguarding arrangements were independently audited, as part of the National Church’s quality assurance programme, by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE). The final report was sent to the Diocese in January 2017.
The Bishop of Southwark, the Rt Revd Christopher Chessun, says of the Report:
‘The Diocese of Southwark takes the safeguarding of children, young people and adults who may be at risk of harm and neglect very seriously and we welcomed the audit by SCIE. I am grateful to them for their work and I am heartened by the outcome of the audit which shows that our commitment to safeguarding has resulted in excellent policies and practice. As in all processes such as this there are some matters which need attention and we will be compiling an action plan in the coming weeks in response to the audit’s findings which will also be placed on the Diocesan website. I am grateful to all those across the Diocese, both in our parishes and within the Diocesan Safeguarding Team, for their hard work as we seek to ensure that the Diocese of Southwark is a safe and welcoming environment for all.'
