Bulletin no.12 - Thursday 21 May
2 months, 1 week ago
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We send you warm greetings on Ascension Day. We know that many parishes will have made Ascension services available to your congregation on line but you might also like to watch the service for Ascension Day from Bishop Christopher’s Chapel at Bishop’s House which can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/SouthwarkCofE/videos/1363381417200101/
- Parish Support Fund
We are pleased to be able to report that the financial results at the end of April are much better than had been forecast following the coronavirus lockdown. We want to thank you for so clearly recognising the crucial need to pay the stipends of our clergy and prioritising payment of your Parish Support Fund (PSF) pledges as a result of this. We know that one parish has made adjustments in their parish spending in order to be able to meet their PSF pledge, another has offered to loan money to other parishes and some have paid extra where they could. We want to say a big THANK YOU for this as it reflects the strong spirit of common purpose within the Diocese and we thank God for this as we also thank you.
- Thy Kingdom Come
As Ascensiontide begins we would like to encourage you to use the period between today and Pentecost Sunday to take part in Thy Kingdom Come, the global initiative of prayer and service which now takes place every year. Diocesan materials for Thy Kingdom Come can be found at: https://southwark.anglican.org/tkc and the Church of England materials can be found at: https://www.churchofengland.org/more/church-resources/thy-kingdom-come
- Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme
We have received some guidance from the Churches’ Legislation Advisory Service concerning the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme. They say: ‘During the COVID 19 crisis HMRC would accept separate weekly envelopes containing £30 or less given when the Churches re-open as eligible for GASDs. Alternatively one envelope with a declaration which clearly states how much was being donated each week would also be eligible. For example If a donor sends (say) £40 "to cover the next four weeks" then this would be eligible as £10 per week provided it is made clear (date provided for the weeks covered) that it is four separate donations in the same envelope’.
With our best wishes to you at this time.
