Archdeacon of Reigate installed
The Bishop of Southwark, the Rt Revd Christopher Chessun, collated the Revd Canon Moira Astin as the new Archdeacon of Reigate at Choral Evensong at Southwark Cathedral on Sunday 30 October. The Sub Dean, the Revd Canon Michael Rawson, then led her to her Archdeacon’s stall.
In his sermon Bishop Christopher spoke of how the varied parts of Moira’s ministry had prepared her for her new role as Archdeacon and urged her to remember that the Archdeacon is ‘above all a builder of relationships’ and how important it is to spend time nurturing those all important relationships between people and parishes and across the wider Diocese.
Commenting on her new role the Venerable Moira Astin said, ‘I am delighted to be returning ‘home’, having been brought up in North Surrey, and I have much looking forward to getting to know the people and places of the Archdeaconry and working with them as we share God’s Good News in the Area’.
At the service Southwark Cathedral Girls’ Choir sang with the Men of the Choir, this was the first time in the sixteen years in which Southwark Cathedral has had a Girls’ Choir that they have sung all the Sunday services and inaugurates a new termly pattern.
