As part of Racial Justice Sunday (8 February 2026), the Diocese of Southwark invites all parishes to contribute to the Truth-telling in Sacred Spaces Conference at Southwark Cathedral on Saturday 7 February. This important event will showcase stories, artefacts, and testimonies that reflect our shared journey towards racial justice.

We are seeking images and materials that highlight historical and contemporary connections to racial justice, including:

  • Photographs of monuments or memorials commemorating individuals or events linked to Britain’s history with slavery, colonialism, or Empire.
  • Archival records referencing parish or clergy involvement with slavery, such as donations, ministering, or sanctuary.
  • Historical depictions or records of people of Global Majority Heritage – black, brown-skinned individuals.

Additionally, we welcome materials that illustrate the diversity of our congregations, pastoral links with local schools and migrant communities, and any outreach or cohesion projects led by parishes.  This gathering will illuminate how our churches have been shaped by global histories, migration, multicultural heritage, and ongoing campaigns for justice and community cohesion. Your contributions will help tell the fuller story of our Diocese’s rich and complex heritage.

Please send any relevant images, records, or testimonies to [email protected]  and together, we can honour the past and inspire a more just future.
