The Diocese of Southwark’s Mission Team has now launched its Thy Kingdom Come resources for 2021. A pack was posted to parishes on 8 April to help them to prepare for the event, which this year takes place from 13-23 May. The materials can also be downloaded from the Diocesan website at southwark.anglican.org/tkc

The Revd Canon Jay Colwill, Director of Mission and Canon Missioner, said: “Our communities and neighbours have never experienced such a challenging time – at least not in my lifetime. Thy Kingdom Come provides resources and ideas to enable parishes, chaplaincies and communities to demonstrate prayer and care – locally, nationally and internationally. I hope that you will find the paper-based and online resources useful to your mission and ministry. Please do consider applying for additional copies or grants to support your outreach.”

Now in its sixth year, Thy Kingdom Come encourages Christians worldwide to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for friends and family to come to faith. The hope is that this year those in Southwark will focus their prayer in a further three ways: locally, by praying for those who have not been able to access the community of faith during the Coronavirus pandemic; nationally, by praying for a reappraisal of the country’s vision and values to serve the needs of everyone in society; and internationally, by praying for the persecuted church.

The resources have been designed for use either in church or at home, so that parishes can choose to share the material however they wish. There are also ideas suitable for families, children and young people of all ages.

Bishop Christopher said: “I am pleased to be able to commend to you, once again, the materials put together by our Mission Department. They are suitable for all ages, for worship at home or together in church. This year, I am particularly glad to commend prayer for the persecuted church and highlight the prayer resource Everyday Faith – Hidden Church.”

Grants of £100 will once again be available to parishes wanting to create their own prayer spaces. Details of how to apply can be found at southwark.anglican.org/tkc
