All the Psalms in One Day

LONDON, EC3

St Ethelburga's Centre for Reconciliation and Peace and leading early music ensemble The Clerks will be hosting a unique event - a communal public reading of the complete Book of Psalms. All 150 of them!  

The reading - which will be recorded - is the first stage in a new, collaborative project between St Ethelburga's and The Clerks which will result in a sound installation which celebrates the daily ritual of prayer in Christian, Islamic and Jewish worship.The installation, called The Hours, will be launched in March 2010 and will last 24 hours. It will incorporate live elements, concluding with a performance by The Clerks.  

The reading will begin at 11.00 am at St Ethelburga's and will end at approximately 6.00 pm. Admission is free.  

Participants and listeners from all faith traditions and none are welcome, and you can drop in for as much or as little time as you like.We are interested in readers of all ages, nationalities and languages; as solo readers and to contribute to "chorus" sections.

There will be readings from the Sacred Scriptures of six world Faiths and devotional music from each Faith.The event culminates in a joint declaration by chaplains of different Faiths to work together for everyone held in our prisons.
