At the Annual General Meeting of the Southwark Diocesan Board of Finance on Wednesday 16 May the Bishop of Southwark, The Right Revd Christopher Chessun, nominated Alan Saunders as the Chair of the Board and Lotwina Faradoye as the Vice Chair. The Diocesan Council of Trustees acting as the Southwark Diocesan Board of Finance unanimously elected them at the same meeting.
Bishop Christopher thanked Adrian Greenwood, Chair of the House of Laity, for his assistance as interim Chair. Adrian will present the Annual Report and Accounts to Diocesan Synod on 4 July, and Alan Saunders will fully take up his office from 5 July. Lotwina Faradoyes’s term of office begins with immediate effect.
Bishop Christopher said that, “the Chair needs a clear and strategic grasp of the finances” as the Chair “represents the trustee body in presenting the annual budget, annual report and accounts to (Diocesan) Synod”. Alan Saunders, he told the meeting, read economics at Cambridge before becoming a stockbroker and has had a career both as an economist and in investment, having also been chair and trustee of a number of different pension funds. Lotwina Farodoye graduated from Cranfield University Business School and has been in marketing, and in business development and advice. Alan is a parishioner in the Richmond Team Ministry and Lotwina worships at Springfield Church, Wallington
Bishop Christopher said, “I am delighted that Alan has accepted my invitation to become Chair of the Board. He will bring welcome additional expertise to our investment committee and also much needed expertise to the wider church in pension funds. These appointments strike a balance of financial expertise and longstanding trusted chairmanship, along with a passion to enrich the Diocese and see through the Southwark Vision.”
