Bishop thanks retired clergy for all their work

The Bishop of Southwark, the Rt Revd Christopher Chessun, hosted a Garden Party at Lambeth Palace on Monday 17 July for some of the retired clergy in the Diocese of Southwark - many of whom still have an active ministry in churches across the Diocese. It was a brilliantly sunny afternoon as nearly 140 retired clergy and their guests gathered under the trees and in the marquee for tea and cakes. It also provided a chance for the more actively to explore the beauty of the Lambeth Palace gardens.
In thanking the retired clergy and their friends and family Bishop Christopher noted that now, as throughout their ministry, they make huge sacrifices in their service of God and the Church. He also said that he realised that their families made those sacrifices too and thanked them for all that they did as well.
The Marquee which is erected each year in in the grounds of Lambeth Palace by the North Lambeth Team Ministry and used for parish events and by Lambeth Palace provided the perfect place for the clergy to sit together and reminisce about their ministries and their memories of the Diocese of Southwark. Bishop Christopher expressed his thanks to the Team Rector Angus Aagaard for this provision.
The retired clergy were pleased to have been invited and hope to be so again!
