In addition to our core staff the work of the Department is supported by a network of tutors, mentors, advisors and coaches reflecting a wealth of talent and specialisms in ministry development amongst lay and ordained people in our Diocese. Events in our Deepening Discipleship programme that focus on spiritual formation also draw on experienced retreat leaders and spiritual directors.
Revd Anna Eltringham is our Dean of Women's Ministry, and was commissioned by Bishop Christopher in March 2017.
Our Vision for learning in the Diocese of Southwark
We have a particular responsibility for learning – which is three dimensional: it includes acquiring knowledge, practising skills and being formed in Christian character. You will see this reflected in the courses we run, the activities we provide and the support we offer.
Though learning is often fun, easy and rewarding, it can also be challenging, difficult and painful – this is because learning can be necessary to adapt to a changing world or a changing role in which our old ways of doing things don’t work any more.
For disciples of Jesus, who seek to be conformed to the likeness of Christ, there is a balance to be held between understanding the change that is a gift of grace, and our responsibility to examine our lives in the light of the Gospel and to develop habits of virtue. Each of us, whatever our stage in life, or our role, develop as disciples within the life of the church and so we are not only accountable to God but also to each other.
Deepening discipleship and reimagining ministry are the twin challenges we seek to enable and resource. In addition to details on the events and activities run by the Diocese our resources page provides useful links and material to support spiritual formation, discipleship and collaborative ministry – for individuals and parishes.
