Deepening Discipleship

Welcome to the Deepening Discipleship programme for 2018 - 2019. These pages contains information on the key events and training run by the various resource departments in the Diocese to encourage and enable discipleship.  The call to follow Jesus stretches across all areas of life – at home, at work and in church. As disciples we are called to be ambassadors of Christ in these places and with the people we meet.

The Deepening Discipleship programme is based on this idea of whole life discipleship. Our parishes, chaplaincies and expressions of church are the places where we receive the support, challenge and teaching that best enables us to be followers of Jesus. The Deepening Discipleship programme offers activities that support this fellowship & learning.  Our courses are designed to directly support this ongoing discipleship – through training for leadership, pastoral support and mission. All events in Deepening Discipleship encourage participants to ‘take home and take on’ what they have learnt.

Growing in Faith and Life

Growing in Faith and Life course is the Bishop’s Certificate in Discipleship. The course covers six modules on church & Christian identity, understanding the bible, Christian teaching & belief; Ethics & Mission and prayer & responding to the Holy Spirit.

SP, who gained the Certificate in 2018, writes:  The people attending are fascinating and we all enjoy each other’s company.  If you want to , there are assignments to do to cement your learning. The course notes are also an essential and excellent guide.  I can’t recommend it highly enough as a means of learning about what we … believe and as a means of growing in understanding.

Dates & Venues

The course begins with an introductory afternoon 10am-1pm on Saturday 8 September at Trinity House.  Each module runs for about five weeks with a short break before the next, and the Saturday group meet twice per module. The course concludes with a residential weekend at Wychcroft in June 2019.
